Full Refurbishment
Mairangi Bay Home
Originally a faux Tudor (dated) design this house located in Mairangi Bay, had a complete refurbishment inside and out to enhance the property and bring it to its full potential!
ADG Builders enjoyed working with David Maurice of LTD Architectural and his transformation of the “Brady House” – which went on to win him the Auckland-Northland ADNZ Residential Alterations and Additions Architectural Design Award.
The original house was deteriorating badly and in need of repair. The architect created a bungalow style that enhanced the house’s coastal setting. A new cedar shingle roof was part of the design in order to help it weather more naturally in its environment.
The living area was expanded three-fold with a new outdoor veranda and pergola deck areas. Extensive roof windows replaced dormer windows on the upper level, allowing light to flood in.
New Home
Stanmore Bay Dream House
This two-storey beach side new home was designed by architectural designer Chris Tate and built by ADG Builders over an 11 month period.
Inspired by two traditional boat sheds this unique home situated at the end of picturesque Stanmore Bay, was designed to capture stunning views of the bay.
The gable boat like ends of the home were positioned on the east and west ends of the property to create a symmetrical design and to maximise the property’s potential. A seamless connection to the outdoors is created from the eight metre wide glass sliding door unit in the pavilion. The large bi-fold door opens up the kitchen and dining area for easy indoor-outdoor flow onto expansive decks.
Design flair can be seen in the architectural project from the integration of joinery colours throughout the home. The two-storey gable ends of the house feature black painted cedar and matte black joinery, while the low pavilion features white cedar with arctic white joinery. The white and black colour palette then continues throughout the interior including the kitchen, which features a 4m long white stone island and matte black cabinets.
Steel framing was also used in the construction of this new build. American Oak Timber Floors were also hand crafted throughout.

New Home
Piha Retreat
ADG Builders helped create something special in a little patch of paradise in Piha. The owners wanted to build a second dwelling in the native bush of their Waitakere property for use as a holiday home/retreat. The owners/clients wanted this new build on their property to be unique, bold, simple, and environmentally friendly. Working alongside Chris Tate and his vision for their new modern concept, ADG Builders had the challenging task of building in the Waitakere Ranges whilst taking the utmost care to protect the natural and cultural surroundings of the native bush.
As a second dwelling on the property, the retreat was not allowed a kitchen. Therefore ideas such as using a sliding door to an outside kitchen sink, which can be accessed from the inside, were implemented to create indoor/outdoor flow. Other design elements such as wool insulation, an outdoor bath, and low eaves for shelter from the hot sun, and floor-to-ceiling double-glazed glass doors were used to create this beautiful holiday home. The finished result was a subtle black architectural masterpiece built to resemble a glass viewing platform in the treetops.

ADG Builders is a family owned and operated building firm established by Andrew & Katie Graham in 2003.
Andrew has been a Registered Certified Builder since 1997 and a DBH Licensed Building Practitioner since 2010. With over 25 years of experience in the industry and a wealth of first hand building knowledge – Andrew is an exceptional project manager, builder, craftsman and Director.
Both Andrew and Katie are passionate about building, decorating and improving properties. Where others see challenges and lack scope, Andrew and Katie can visualize and interpret the best way to enhance a property and to add value.
